We’re excited to announce that the latest version of WAM is here! Upgrade now to keep your WSUS running smoothly. Here’s a summary of what’s new in WAM 2025.01:

Features

New features include:

  • Feature: Added a new tool: Resolve-NonDSSTargetGroup, used to fix erroneous update approvals in the WSUS database.
  • Feature: Added a new stream: Database Statistics, used for showing certain statistics about the WSUS database.
  • Feature: Added initial support for using OAUTH authentication with Gmail.
  • Feature: Added the option to disable the Database Maintenance Stream for users who cannot execute it (limitations from security policies, etc.)
  • Feature: Added detection for when SQLCMD GO is installed. SQLCMD GO is not compatible with WAM, and needs to be lower on the PATH list for WAM to function properly.

Updates

Check out these exciting updates:

  • Update: Added a configuration file version check to ensure users are using the proper, updated WAM configuration. WAM handles configuration upgrades automatically on upgrade, and you should not be manually overwriting your configuration file as there are mandatory changes between versions.
  • Update: Removed deprecated SQLCMD option.
  • Update: Changed AJTekDeclineMultipleTypesArithmeticOverflowFix to AJTekAPIRemotingBypassEnabled.
  • Update: Added Windows 11 24H2, Server 2012 R2, Server 2016, Server 2019, Server 2022, Server 2025 decline options.
  • Update: Renamed WsusContentUNCSharePermissionsAnonymous check to IISWsusContentAuthentication.
  • Update: Fixed missing Verbose output for the Database Maintenance Stream.
  • Update: Added improved error handling to reports. Reports should now include relevant error information to better help diagnose issues, or for sending to support.
  • Update: Changed timeout recommendation in Decline Multiple Types Of Updates to use AJTekAPIRemotingBypassEnabled.
  • Update: Added the option to run the Display Newly Added Products Stream daily.
  • Update: Added a suggestion to run the new Resolve-NonDSSTargetGroup cmdlet when encountering errors pertaining to erroneous update approvals (“Cannot delete revisionid: (ID) because it is still deployed to a Non DSS Target Group.”)
  • Update: Reworked Rename OS Descriptions. Descriptions are now more dynamically generated and provide a wider range of renames (more supported Windows versions, editions, etc.).
  • Update: Removed loading of configuration files in the WAM installation directory. This will not affect users who have properly configured WAM.
  • Update: Reworked connection check for WSUS servers. The check should now be noticeably faster.
  • Update: Reworked IISWsusContentAuthentication check (previously titled WsusContentUNCSharePermissionsAnonymous). The check will now detect errors relating to improperly configured IIS “/Content” folders when storing the WSUS content folder on a UNC share.
  • Update: Disabled the Database Stored Procedure Optimization Stream for Windows Server 2008 R2 as it is not supported on this server version.
  • Update: Improved error handling with WAM reporting. Reports should now always be saved, even if an unexpected error occurs while running WAM.
  • Update: Improved error handling on numerous WAMTools cmdlets.
  • Update: Improved error handling when WAM is unable to connect to the WSUS server or SQL database.
  • Update: Reworked WAM’s optimization checking. Optimization checks should now be more consistent, less verbose, and will properly record errors encountered during execution.
  • Update: Improved WAM’s upgrade script to better reflect what variables are being changed by the upgrade script.

Bug Fixes

We’ve also addressed several important bug fixes, including:

  • Bug Fix: Fixed a bug in Database Maintenance while executing in PowerShell 4.0.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed a bug in Decline Multiple Types Of Updates where Microsoft 365 Apps were not being properly declined.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed InstallTask not working in Server 2008 R2.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed SQL connection failing for users that have customized their SQL connection string in the WSUS registry (e.g.: enabling encryption). Please note that this is not officially supported by WSUS or WAM.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed a bug with WAM’s upgrade script where it was unable to add notices.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed a bug with Get-MaxSimultaneousFileDownloads returning an incorrect value.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed a bug with Get-WsusIISMaxInstalledPrerequisites returning an incorrect value.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an edge case with Remove-WsusProduct failing to connect to the WSUS server.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed Remove-WsusProduct not working on Server 2008 R2.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed a bug with RemoveObsoleteUpdates not working on replica WSUS servers.
  • Bug Fix: Fix WAM Update Check logic for online and caching lookups.

Installer

And last, but not least…

  • Installer: Added a configuration page for the API remoting bypass.
  • Installer: Added decline options for Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server declines.
  • Installer: Added daily option to the New Products And Classifications configuration page.
  • Installer: Added error page for when SQLCMD GO is installed, as WAM cannot run with it installed (or at least higher in the PATH variable than SQLCMD ODBC).
  • Installer: Added some cleanup logic for cleaning up old, leftover files.
  • Installer: Reworked Microsoft Edge declines page.
